Rehearsal?

SHOULD WE HAVE A REHEARSAL?

I enjoy officiating weddings, with or without a rehearsal. Leading ceremonies without a rehearsal allows for more unplanned and unexpected things to intrude. I have learned to manage these with gracefulness and humour. Nonetheless, years of experience have convinced me that wedding rehearsals are worth it, especially for weddings with three or more groomsmen and bridesmaids.

Rehearsals can be a lot of extra work – often more work than weddings themselves. Yet the investment is worth the effort for the hope of building that truly exceptional wedding for the memories in the hearts and minds of those I serve. My goal is for couples to live the rest of their lives together in the afterglow of a resplendent wedding where the guests leave your wedding remarking that that was the best wedding they have ever attended and that your wedding was, “So you!” While this goal may not always be attainable due to factors beyond my control, this is the objective to which I aspire, and to which I pour out everything I have to give.

There are a lot of things that can go wrong to rob your wedding of its memorableness. Once the wedding has begun officiants can do little about most of them. As well, every venue, even backyards, contributes distinctive features I like to blend into the artistry of the event. In a rehearsal I can head off discordant expectations that participants may have concerning their ceremony involvement. An active run-through provides opportunity for the Officiant and the bride and groom to compare expectations for the ceremony, especially for me to reorient myself to the dreams of a bride for her most special day. In fact, it is my policy that a rehearsal is not complete until the bride approves. By this we, as a team, ensure the rehearsal provides maximum benefit to the ceremony outcome—to its beauty, grace and lasting impact. As well, rehearsals solidify relationships which I use to sweeten the dynamic, warmth and joyfulness of the ceremony.

I have developed a method for rehearsals that locks in ceremony procedures so that participants know what is expected of them even if the ceremony has to be moved to another setting. Rehearsals run quickly and efficiently in an entertaining manner that all enjoy.

Your wedding ceremony should be a lifetime highlight, a glowing memorial to a lifetime of loving devotion, one to which your mind returns for inspiration and reorientation, like a tuning fork for your devotion to each other. Investing in a rehearsal ensures the best for the true focus of the occasion – an incredible wedding ceremony experience.
